Situational Awareness
Iran conflict escalates further: Trump threatens strikes on Iran’s infrastructure after a Houthi attack on Saudi ships; Brent crosses $100/bbl for the first time since May, roughly 43% above the ~$70 pre-war baseline. This is a threat-driven spike, not a confirmed supply disruption. This same conflict has partially unwound before on conciliatory headlines, so treat the risk premium as reversible, not structural. Direct tailwind: energy E&P. Direct cost headwind: airlines.
Alphabet’s capex-guidance shock is still reverberating: GOOGL fell 6.9% Thursday after raising FY26 capex guidance to $195-205B; combined with the oil spike, that sent the broader tape to its worst session in a month, with the wider hyperscaler/AI-infrastructure cohort selling off in sympathy.
Fed leaning hawkish under new Chair Warsh, yields spiking alongside oil-driven inflation risk.
Earnings season backdrop: roughly 88% of the ~66 S&P 500 names reported so far have topped bottom-line estimates. Today’s thin premarket mover list is a stock-picker’s day, not a macro-participation one.

Top Calls
THC +16.6% · fresh-EP, SKIP · volume gate, Q2 EPS $6.12 vs. $4.26 consensus, FY26 guide raised to $20.30-$21.69 EPS (was $17.81 consensus); a real beat that hasn’t cleared premarket volume confirmation yet.
WKC +8.9% · fresh-EP, SKIP · volume gate, Q2 EPS $1.29 non-GAAP, 72% above consensus; free cash flow -$35.1M vs. +$13.3M a year ago is a real quality flag under the beat.
AMKR +11.3% · news-driven · Medium, $1.5B multi-year NVIDIA packaging/test partnership announced after hours; stock +12% AH on the news. A same-day analyst price-target cut sits right under the headline (see below).
⚠ PRMB · investigated, not included, next earnings isn’t until August 5; today’s screener “EPS surprise” figure on this ticker is stale prior-quarter data, and no dated news was found explaining today’s +11.6% gap beyond week-old analyst target bumps. Considered, no confirmable catalyst found.
The Setups
THC
Tenet Healthcare’s Q2 print is a clean, real beat: EPS $6.12 crushed the $4.26 consensus, revenue $5.63B also topped forecasts, and management raised full-year EPS guidance to $20.30-$21.69 versus a prior Street consensus of just $17.81, citing same-store revenue growth and expense control. A recent Moody’s credit upgrade tied to deleveraging progress adds a second, independent tailwind. The one thing holding this back from a clean high-conviction tag right now: relative volume is still well under the confirmation threshold this early in premarket. The gap is real; the participation isn’t confirmed yet.
WKC
World Kinect’s Q2 beat is large on every headline metric: revenue +50.3% YoY to $13.59B, non-GAAP EPS $1.29 (+72% vs. consensus), adjusted EBITDA beating by over 40%, and operating margin flipping from -3.8% to +0.7%. The quality wrinkle: free cash flow was -$35.1M this quarter versus +$13.3M a year ago. A fuel/logistics reseller’s top line is heavily driven by pass-through commodity pricing, so the growth number overstates underlying demand strength on its own. Same volume-confirmation caveat as THC applies here.
AMKR
Amkor’s move isn’t an earnings story. Q2 doesn’t report until Monday 7/27. Today’s catalyst is a same-day, after-hours $1.5B multi-year strategic partnership with NVIDIA for advanced semiconductor packaging and test technology aimed at next-gen AI and accelerated-computing platforms; shares rose as much as 12% after hours on the news, and the move fits squarely into the same AI-infrastructure capex theme already dominating the tape today (see Situational Awareness). Worth noting: an analyst cut its price target the same day while keeping a neutral rating. A real, dated skeptical counterpoint sits right under the headline enthusiasm.
Bottom line
Thinnest premarket mover list in weeks: two real, large earnings beats (THC, WKC) that haven’t cleared the volume-confirmation gate yet, and one genuine news-driven mover (AMKR) riding the same AI-capex theme dominating the broader tape after GOOGL’s guidance shock.
